I thought I might just post a few things I've observed from this season's Ultimate Fighter.
Frank Mir -- Let me phrase this correctly: I thought Mir was a great "action" coach up until the final episode. During the fights, he was very vocal for his fighters. He provided quick feedback and guided them to several key victories. The final episode, however, he was "outcoached" by Nog. His ego is off the charts and at one point claimed he'll kill at Nog at any sport (except Soccer)...his ego overshadows his coaching potential and makes me dislike him.
Big Nog -- I'll admit, I did not know a whole lot about this man prior to this UF season. I was very impressed with his coaching style and his overall desire for improvement rather than quick domination. Both coaches want to win, absolutely, but Nog definitely had a heart for teaching and it was obvious with his choice of fighters. He "outcoached" Mir during the Bader/Marshal fight and all in all, I've seen enough from him this season (and his youtube stuff) that I'll be putting big points on him for a submission victory at the end of the month.
The Fighters:
There were some decent fighters on this season and the finale should be good. Bader vs. Vinny is interesting because of the styles. Bader has a strong wrestling background and some decent stand-up. Vinny has very limited stand-up but is a BJJ prodigy. If Bader can keep this standing up, he's got a great chance of knocking out Vinny. If it hits the mat and stays on the mat, Vinny will lock in a submission at some point...
The lightweights...The Filipino guy has it, hands down. All my points on that. Seriously. I know Efrain submitted Junie but that blonde-haired trailer park reject was a mental midget. I'll bet against a mentally weak person each time (Tyler Hansborough)!
Anyways, this was the first full season of the Ultimate Fighter that I watched and really enjoyed it. I'm going to rent the previous seasons just to see the evolution of the show and it'll be cool to see Forrest and Rashaad go through the competition.
Any others watching?
